How my school is affected by Ohio’s funding problem.

When I got wind of this essay opportunity, I felt obligated to take part in this interesting topic. I know that my schools as many as others are in need of better funding arrangements. I believe that students should feel like we are in a safe environment when we come to school everyday for seven hours a day.

The people in my community are not willing to support our levies. But our city shouldn’t have to raise taxes for those who do not have children or grandchildren in the city schools district. I believe that the state should take care of all of our funding needs to run the schools properly and each student shouldn’t have to worry about how their future will turn out to be. Something as little as a levy could change the futures of all students who are in the same situation as we are in now. We should be guaranteed the education we deserve, but with how things are, students worry everyday about what the future holds for them. We will eventually be running the nation and I’m sure that that the people of today will want smart and well educated people taking care of them when the become older.

Chillicothe City Schools has a lot to offer. We are something great and we shouldn’t let them bring our smart students and teachers down. Right now we have advanced placement classes, but soon if we can’t persuade the elderly to vote for what we believe in there is no hope for us to keep the advanced placement classes. The many schools around us don’t have advanced placement classes. That is why it is so important for us to keep the special classes for if we were to go to a surrounding school, we wouldn’t be able to have as good opportunities as at Chillicothe. As eighth grades were are offered Algebra, Spanish, French, and we have advanced language classes. That is something rare for a small city below Columbus.

Something big that will also be affected by the funding problem and with the trouble we face with our levies, sports will also be cut. Sports may not seem as though it is that important but it is very important. What is our country telling us to do as often as we can? They are telling us to get exercise and eat healthy and with obese America, all teens need exercise not only to keep them in shape but also to keep healthy and make exercise a natural habit in your lifestyle. Another thing that is important relating to sports is making friends. Friends might not seem that important but they are. You need friends to help you cope with everyday life. And with sports you meet a big variety of friends.

In addition to sports and advanced placement classes being cut it is also a good possibility that our arts program will be cut. The arts program includes music classes, art classes, musical productions, and gym classes. Again these might not seem that important but they are. These extra classes let students experience something new and exciting. It lets them be imaginable and fun. Without these students would have a pretty boring life. Just going to school because their parents make them or because they want to be smart isn’t much of a life. Some people go to school everyday to participate in the schools musical and which pushes them to get good grades. These special arts are like goals. Without goals, where would you be in life? These give people something to get them motivated or to even attend school. It gives them a reason for waking up in the morning.

There are so many reasons why our state should help with our education needs. In the near future I would love to wake up knowing my future life is safe and taken care of. But until our state realizes that we need help with accomplishing the education needs for everyone our future is in the hands of people who don’t know the situation at all or even just a little bit. We need a good school system where we are guaranteed the education and activities that we deserve.
